Mrs. Alka Jakhar
Educationist
Mrs. Alka Jakhar, a distinguished educationist, has made monumental contributions to the realm of education over the past 32 years. Holding a postgraduate degree in Economics, she has authored contributions to numerous publications, including ‘Reflections of a Soldier’. Raised in a family of Army officers, education emerged as a natural vocation, particularly during her husband’s deployments at the Nation’s frontiers.
Commencing her career as a secondary school teacher in 1987, she has amassed extensive experience teaching at Army Public Schools across various locations, serving in prestigious capacities: Administrator of 9 Army Goodwill Schools in Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir; Principal of Army Public School in Jaurian, J&K; and Principal of RDPS, Krishan Vihar.
She also established a new Primary School in the border regions of Akhnoor, J&K, an endeavour still cherished with gratitude by local villagers, exemplifying dedication to humanity and the Nation. As an educationist, Mrs. Jakhar guides the students at Chinmaya Vidyalaya toward fostering responsible and effective citizens, poised to elevate India into a formidable global power.
Mr. Ramesh Sethi
Educationist
Mr. R. K. Sethi stands as a distinguished figure within the realm of education. He earned his Master of Science (Honours) degree from Punjab University in Chandigarh, subsequently embarking upon his professional journey with the DAV Organisation as a Lecturer before assuming the esteemed role of Principal for an extensive duration. His tenure within the organization encompassed over 40 years, during which he also embraced the responsibilities of an educational consultant.
Mr. Sethi has been pivotal in the advancement of the Public School educational framework within DAV Public Schools. He is a lifetime member of the DAV College Trust & Management Society located in New Delhi. In addition, he has established himself as an accomplished author, penning 21 books in the domains of Science and Chemistry, which are integrated into school curriculum. For the past decade, he has served as the Honorary Treasurer of the DAV College Managing Committee.
As a pivotal mentor, Mr. Sethi perpetually evaluates our curriculum and extracurricular offerings at the school, ensuring the comprehensive development of each child and aiding in the maintenance of the utmost educational excellence.
Dr. Satish Chadha
MBBS: MS ECFMG (USA) FRCS (Edinburgh, UK)
He is a member of the National Panel of Public Health England, engaging in nationwide External Quality Assessment (EQA) visits to various screening programs. In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Chadha harbours a profound interest in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and the holistic development of individuals. In pursuit of this interest, he has undertaken courses in personal development at Anthony Robbins Mastery University in the USA and in CBT at the University of Birmingham.
He is an active, certified Master Practitioner and an INLPTA-certified NLP trainer, frequently conducting workshops and courses throughout Northamptonshire, UK, as well as in India.
As a professionally trained mentor and certified Mindfulness teacher, Dr. Chadha collaborates with the educational institution to cultivate the Vedic Mind training embraced by Chinmaya Boarding School, aiming to foster comprehensive mental and physical development among the students. Furthermore, he oversees the school’s mental health and counseling department.
Dr. Poornima Sharma
Heamatologist Oncologist (Ohio, USA)
Dr. Poornima Sharma finalized her fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. Currently, Dr. Sharma serves as a senior medical consultant at the Tate Cancer Centre, affiliated with UM Baltimore-Washington Medical Center, in addition to her role as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Maryland, USA. Dr. Sharma is instrumental in fostering awareness of exemplary health practices and protocols that individuals ought to embrace in their lives, thereby assisting the Chinmaya School in embedding these values within its educational framework.
Mrs. Shakuntala Arya
Ex-Mayor, Delhi
From the very early years of her life, Mrs. Shakuntala Arya devoted herself to the cause of women’s education, empowerment and the upliftment of the underprivileged. She founded the Arya Kanya Gurukul, Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi with a vision of providing meaningful educational opportunities to women, and also served on the managing committees of several colleges affiliated with the University of Delhi. Her steadfast and courageous participation in the movement for the restoration of fundamental rights during the Emergency remains a testament to her conviction, courage and commitment to democratic values.
With her exceptional leadership, deep understanding of society and unwavering dedication to public service, Mrs. Arya entered public life and went on to serve as the First Mayor of Delhi in 1997 following a decisive electoral victory. Throughout her public career, she was widely respected for her humility, integrity, sincerity and tireless commitment to the welfare of society.
Mrs. Shakuntala Arya was among the founding members associated with the establishment of Chinmaya Vidyalaya as a boarding school and played a significant role in shaping its vision and ethos. The school had the privilege of functioning under her guidance and benefitting from her wisdom, values and experience. Her profound understanding of the Vedas and Vedanta, together with her lifelong commitment to education and human development, made her an invaluable source of guidance in nurturing the school’s vision of holistic education and strengthening its Vedic Mind Training initiatives.
Mrs. Shakuntala Arya entered eternal repose on 24 July 2026. Her contribution, values and ideals remain an enduring part of the legacy of Chinmaya Vidyalaya. Her life continues to inspire the school community to uphold the principles of leadership, integrity, women’s empowerment, service and holistic education. Her memory shall remain a guiding light and a source of inspiration for generations of students, educators and the entire Chinmaya Vidyalaya family.
Maj.Gen.(Retd) Sudhir Singh Jakhar
He has been an indispensable figure in operations spanning from Operation Blue Star to Operation Rakshak in Punjab, Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka, as well as Operations Vijay, Rakshak, and Parakaram in Jammu and Kashmir. Over a distinguished career of 37 years, he has commanded a battalion in areas beset by active insurgency and along the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
His roles have included serving as an instructor at the National Defence Academy, as GSO 1 in the Military Operations Directorate, Colonel Military Secretary, an instructor at the Army War College, Deputy Director General of Canteen Services, Interviewing Officer for the Services Selection Board, Chief of Staff for the Desert Corps, and Assistant Director General of the National Cadet Corps in Jammu and Kashmir.
He has received accolades such as the Chief of Army Staff commendation on two occasions and the Army Commander’s commendation three times. He organizes programs for prospective candidates for the Services Selection Board and conducts seminars related to Defence and Education at various universities.
Major General Jakhar plays a pivotal role in guiding the school in developing policies that foster discipline and decorum. He serves as a mentor and guide for youth aspiring to join the Indian Defence Forces, while also overseeing the National Cadet Corps (NCC) wing at Chinmaya boarding school.
